FEATURED STORY

Taiwan Garden at the Hude Community Center PlaygroundNewton Thanks the Taiwan Garden ROC Committee

The Taiwan Garden at the Hyde Community Centre Playground is in the height of spring glory! Since 2010 the members of the Taipei Economic Culture Center and Newton Parks and Recreation Department have nursed the creation of an authentic Chinese garden. The garden features the use of plant material indigenous to China and is further beautified with architectural elements singularly Chinese. Proud to be giving back to the City of Newton, Dr. Edward Kuo smiles as he enjoys the colorful spring display! See more photos.

Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl (Pål Sverre Hagen) crossed the Pacific Ocean in a balsa wood raft in 1947, together with five men, to prove that South Americans already back in pre-Columbian times could have crossed the sea and settle on Polynesian islands. After gathering financing for the trip with loans and donations, they set off on an epic 101 day-long journey across 8,000 kilometers, all while the world was watching.
