Newton Community Farm is pleased to announce our 2013 spring and summer education programs for youth and families!

Children and families, join us for vacation week programs and other classes during the spring. If you are looking for summer programs for your children (pre-school through grade 9), check out our popular offerings including Farm Sprouts, Little Diggers, Farmer in Training, and Socially Aware Young (SAY) Farmers. For high school students interested in farming and working outdoors, consider serving as a volunteer intern with our Farm Manager. Newton Community Farm's High School Summer Internship Program

Newton Community Farm (303 Nahanton Street, Newton) is now accepting inquiries for our High School Summer Intern program.

Summer internships are unpaid opportunities for high school students to learn about organic and community farming in a fun, friendly environment. No experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and work hard.

Minimum requirement for the internship is 8:00 AM to noon, two days per week for two weeks, but can expand up to five days per week (Tuesday through Saturday) for as many weeks as you like. read more »

Free Women's Self-Defense Class

The Newton-Wellesley Department of Public Safety is offering a FREE three-day Women's Self Defense Course (Rape Aggression Defense - R.A.D.). This is a comprehensive self-defense class that begins with prevention strategies while progressing on to the basics on hands-on self-defense. The class ends with a realistic simulation where participants will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned.

Become a Newton School Volunteer Math Tutor

Newton Public Schools seeks volunteers for one-on-one tutoring of 2nd-5th grade students in basic mathematics concepts, once a week for 30-45 minutes.

You can select your preferred school, grade, day, and time. You’ll play special math games that reinforce skills and help students gain confidence and competence. NPS provides training, Everyday Math books and learning materials, and ongoing support.

No teaching experience is needed.

High School Science Teams Seek Local Sponsors

The science teams of Newton South HS and Newton North HS are large (more than 30 students each), open to all interested students, mostly student-run, and very successful in a wide range of events. In last year’s State Science Olympiad, they came in second and third place statewide, respectively. The teams support students to develop scientific inquiry skills, to increase their content knowledge, and most critically to work together collaboratively as a team. read more »

March Madness Basketball Clinics

The JCC will hold a basketball clinic on four consecutive Thursdays for children in grades K-5.

The clinics will focus on shooting skills (3/7), dribbling and passing skills (3/14), defense and rebounding (3/21), and full court/half court games (3/28). Children will be divided by age and ability. The clinic will be led by youth recreation specialist Peter Sylvester. read more »

Children ages 6-12 can fine-tune their hitting, fielding, throwing, catching and base running skills in preparation for the Spring Little League season at a four-week baseball clinic at the JCC.
