Adult Sibling Relationships

Newton Free Library, 330 Homer St., Newton Centre

The bond siblings develop in childhood may be vastly different from the relationship that evolves in adulthood. Join Dr. Geoffrey L. Greif for an illustrated lecture based on in-depth case studies of more than 260 aged 40+ siblings, and interviews with experts on mental health and family interaction. Dr. Greif will provide insight on how to traverse the emotional terrain of adult sibling relationships especially as they pertain to ambivalence which can lead to miscommunication and estrangement. Specific suggestions for realizing new, productive avenues of friendship in middle and later life will also be covered. Such skills become important for siblings who must cooperate to care for aging parents or give immediate emotional or financial support to other family members. A book signing will follow.
