Sunday, April 29, 2018
Eliot Church of Newton, 474 Centre St., Newton Centre

Rising MIT composer Elena Ruehr’s “Eve,” composed in 2014, takes its familiar text from Genesis, but rather than the traditional retelling, poses an honest question: was gaining knowledge of good and evil such a terrible thing? Arvo Pärt’s “Adam’s Lament” is more traditional in interpretation, though in Part’s signature haunting musical style. Pärt has said that the fallen Adam of the work represents "humankind in its entirety and each individual person alike".For 16 singers and string orchestra.
