Erotic love, satiric humor and youthful zest from the Middle Ages to the present! From Behind the Caravan: Songs of Hâfez, is an “exotic, thrilling, evocative work” [CBC] by American composer Abbie Betinis, on texts by the Persian mystic. A Chantar – the Countess of Dia’s plaint of betrayed love – is the centerpiece of songs by female troubadours. These aristocratic ladies performed deliciously wicked poems about their lives in court and convent, forced marriages, and illicit affairs. With Duo Maresienne: Carol Lewis, vielle and Olav Chris Henriksen, lute; Na’ama Lion on medieval flutes and George Lernis, percussion.  Tickets $24; seniors $20
