Bike Newton is calling all young engineers, entrepreneurs, and activists to design the streets of the future. Bike Newton President Alicia Bowman and Vice President Nathan Phillips are teaming up to volunteer teach a one-week (8/21/17 – 8/25/17) “smart streets” class from 9am-4pm for middle schoolers offered by Newton Community Education. Students will imagine a zero-pollution mix of bikes, electric vehicles, and buses, all sharing the road safely with state-of-the-art lane markings and bike protections. Learn the skills you need to make your imagined streets a reality.

How and Why Medical Marijuana Can Help You

A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that medical cannabis can be an effective treatment for a variety of conditions, including pain management, PTSD, and more. Dr. Karen Munkacy will join us to provide an overview of the science and health benefits behind medical marijuana. She will also explain how to obtain a Medical Marijuana Card in Massachusetts and discuss the products and services offered by her medical marijuana dispensary, Garden Remedies. Dr. Munkacy, MD is the founder and president of Garden Remedies and a Newton resident.

Jewelry Repair Workshop

Myra MacDonald will repair one item of jewelry (worth less than $50). She can restring 16, 18, and 20 inch beaded necklaces, replace neck-lace clasps, or replace earring (pierced) backs. Myra is a former Nursing Director, whose avocation is jewelry creation and repair. Register for a 15-minute appointment, with the Senior Center Front Desk at 617-796-1660. You may sign up for one appointment. $5 suggested donation.
