February Vacation Art Program: Discovering Botanical Wonderland

Tuesday, February 21, 2017
9:00 am-9:00 pm
New Art Center, 61 Washington Park, Newtonville

Before photography was created botanical art was the only method available for the scientific documentation of plants, their shapes, structure, colors and lifecycle. For this week’s projects students will be inspired by artwork on view from the New Art Center’s exhibition that showcases botanical still lifes and environments. Students will also look at the painting Primavera by Botticelli that depicts at least 190 different species of flowers, where 130 were identified! The week and its projects will be the perfect break that we need from winter days as we focus on the beauty of botanical art in different forms, including clay, 2D sculpture, mixed media and performing arts.
