How (Older) Houses Work, Pt. 1

Thursday, March 16, 2017
7:00 pm-9:00 pm
Durant Kenrick House and Grounds, 286 Waverly Ave., Newton

Does your older home delight but also confound you? This two-session workshop presents the fundamentals of building science and describes how to diagnose building problems, particularly in older homes. Explore the joys and challenges of historic preservation in two dynamic sessions led by Peter Yost of BuildingGreen, Inc. Yost has been building, researching, teaching, and consulting on high performance homes for nearly 30 years.

Session 1 will examine how heat and moisture interact in buildings, and look at some building science “puzzles” – can you figure out what’s causing the problem?

Session 2 (March 28, 7-9 p.m.) will be an opportunity to bring your own building science puzzles and questions, and will conclude with a survey of the tools and techniques used to diagnose building issues and energy efficiency.

Attend one or both sessions.  Cost for each session is $20 per person, $15 for Historic Newton members. All attendees will receive three months of full access to  Register HERE. Call 617-796-1450 with questions.
