Almost 500 Newton children will fill store windows with ghosts, goblins, witches, and other ghoulish Halloween characters from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday, October 24 as part of Newton’s 27th Halloween Window Painting Contest. The children, in grades 3 through 8, will paint their pictures on the storefronts of over 150 participating merchants in Auburndale, Newton Centre, Newton Highlands, Newtonville, Nonantum, Waban, and West Newton.
This beloved annual tradition, organized by the Newton Department of Arts and Culture with financial support from Spark Newton, encourages children’s participation in artistic endeavors, promotes community spirit, and brings “feet on the street” to Newton’s village centers.
A press conference and photo opportunity will be held at 11 am on October 24 in front of Rancatore’s Ice Cream, 333 Walnut St., Newtonville.
An independent panel will judge the paintings, and winners will be invited to an award ceremony with Mayor Laredo at City Hall on November 7 at 2 p.m.
