One Day ‘Spring Preview Farmers’ Market’ Coming to Newton Centre

Newton’s Economic Development team is rolling out a new initiative aimed at boosting foot traffic in the city’s village centers — and their first major effort arrives this June.

Economic Development Director Lauren Berman and Deputy Director Cheryl Lappin have been meeting with small businesses across Newton’s villages, and the message has been consistent: shops and restaurants need more people walking through the centers. More pedestrians mean more browsing, more dining, and more local spending.

Union Street will be temporarily closed to car traffic. Local shops and restaurants will be open, and the morning will feature live music and family‑friendly activities. With the location just steps from the MBTA Green Line, the event will be easy for residents across Newton — and beyond — to reach.
