I’ll be exhibiting my “picturepoems” (based on my own poetry and the poetry of Emily Dickinson) at Newton South High School during Newton Open Studios May 30-31
My work explores the space where language becomes form—where a poem’s architecture can be seen as well as felt. I integrate the words and letters of poetry directly into my paintings, not as captions or illustrations, but as structural elements that shape the visual field. I am drawn to the tension between reading and seeing. Letters carry meaning, but they are also shapes—curves, angles, rhythms. By weaving them into layers of color, texture, and gesture, I invite viewers to experience language in a new dimension.
