The City of Newton’s Youth & Young Adult Services Division  facilitates a Summer Internship Program for Newton youth aged 16-18. The program is also open to individuals over 18-years-old who are current high school students or who plan graduate high school immediately before the summer program begins.

The Internship Program provides a hands-on learning experience that pairs real world job experiences, with career competency and post-secondary skill building workshops.

With the assistance of MassHire Metro South/West and the YouthConnections program, the City of Newton is able to offer participants an hourly wage, making this a true employment experience.

Each summer the Newton YouthWorks Summer Internship Program includes a June participant orientation as well as 6-8 weeks of part-time paid employment. Participants will receive about 20 hours of on-the-job experience per week in addition to 1-3 hours of career competency training each week.

This summer we are planning to run the program for 8 weeks – from the week of June 30th through the week of August 18th. The exact end date for each participant/employment opportunity is somewhat flexible to accommodate people going off to college, other seasonal transitions, etc.

Eligibility

Some young people experience greater barriers to employment and workforce development opportunities. Newton’s YouthWorks Internship Program aims to support those individuals.
