SUMMARY:Women of Courage and Conviction
DESCRIPTION:Join the author of Women of Courage and Conviction\, Newton writer Dorothy Anger\, along with three of the book’s Newton women\, Maria Brisk\, Hanni Meyers\, and Sallie Craig Huber\, as they share stories of their extraordinary lives. \nThese women’s experiences span continents and eras: One walked from Newton to Washington DC in a “Walk for Peace”; another grew up in Argentina during the Perón regime; two survived their childhoods as Jews under the Nazi regime; and the fifth became a global leader in women’s reproductive health and health systems management. Come hear about the journeys of these courageous women\, their resilience and achievements\, and honor the power of storytelling to connect us across generations. \nRSPV

SUMMARY:Historic Newton Annual Plant Swap
DESCRIPTION:Below are frequently asked questions about a swap. \nHow does a plant swap work? \nIf you have plants (or other garden items) you’d like to swap for something else\, bring them to the event\, and take home something new in exchange. Please bring something (tray\, box\, etc.) to carry the plants you are taking home. \nDo I have to bring something? Do I have to take something new home? \nDue to the overwhelming popularity of this event\, we are implementing a one-for-one system. If you bring one plant to swap\, you can leave with one plant\, etc. \nIf you don’t want to take home something new\, you can still donate plants and gardening items! And if you just want to come for the outdoors and to spend some time talking with other plant people\, you are more than welcome! \nWhat do I need to do if I want to donate plants for the swap? \nPlease bring your plants (or any other garden items) individually packaged and labeled for easy sorting and distribution. If you would like to drop off your items the day before the event\, the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds will be open the day before the event to receive them. \nCan I bring my kids? \nYes\, children are welcome. Because the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds are on land stewarded for millennia by the Massachusett people\, Historic Newton will teach students about the Native American Three Sisters planting system and share other gardening information for children. \nWhere do I park? \nOur small parking lot will be reserved for pickups/drop-offs and for accessible parking for those with physical mobility challenges. You can park on the even-numbered side of the street along Waverley Ave\, Kenrick St\, and Eliot Memorial Rd. \nWhat if I have a question not answered here? \nCall 617-796-1450 or email events@historicnewton.org \nWe look forward to seeing you at the Plant Swap! \nThe event is free\, but please register in advance to help us plan. Sign up here. \nSoil testing: if you’d like to bring a soil sample to be tested\, please follow these guidelines. \nREAD MORE
